the artist’s journey

In high school art class I sat next to Janice, who was whipping off portraits that were astounding. I had no training and surely did not want to try to keep up with Janice, so I did a volleyball net made of small caricatures. Everyone wanted one! I was flabbergasted and affirmed. I was launched!

I taught drawing and painting for 35 years, at Dixon High School, to amazingly gifted students. I honed the ability to draw upside down in order to demonstrate on a drawing board while facing the class and inspired them by making and exhibiting my art. I constantly learned new mediums and rarely had time to complete anything.

Thirty five years later I retired, met my partner and moved close to the ocean. I always thought life would be better in love and at the beach. It is. So at 58, with 1 million unfinished ideas and awareness of so many mediums, I took off in art, love and surfing!!

All of this to explain the big diversity in my styles. i love the challenge and meditation of realism, but my spirit is emerging in the stYle i have called, “Realism with a twist”. I also love the expression and movement i hope to convey in abstraction.
